NFL Trade Buzz: Washington Commanders Eyeing Brian Robinson Jr.

According to recent reports and analyses, the Washington Commanders are actively exploring trade options for running back Brian Robinson Jr. entering the final year of his rookie contract. This comes despite a career-best performance in the 2024 NFL season.

Why the Commanders might trade him

  • Roster Depth: The Commanders possess a crowded running back room, including Austin Ekeler, Jeremy McNichols, and Chris Rodriguez Jr., along with seventh-round rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt, who has reportedly impressed during training camp.
  • Contract Situation: Robinson Jr. is entering the final year of his contract, and trading him now could allow the Commanders to acquire draft capital rather than potentially losing him in free agency next offseason.
  • Jacory Croskey-Merritt’s Emergence: The strong preseason performance of rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt, dubbed “Bill,” may have accelerated the team’s decision to explore trading Robinson Jr..

Potential landing spots

Several teams have been identified as potential suitors for Robinson Jr., including the San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs, and Los Angeles Chargers.

The Commanders are reportedly open to moving Robinson Jr. if the “right price” is met, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. It’s important to note that a trade to a fellow NFC contender like the Cowboys or 49ers might come with a higher price tag.
